13 June 2007: Choral Festival 2007

HH Petrus & Paulus, Leidschendam

Every year the Anglican dioces of North-West Europe holds a choral festival for it's choirs and like every year a different choir takes on the responsibility for organising one. The choir reherses for a whole day learning the music and a the end of the day we have a Choral Evensong to end the musical day.

This year the choir of St. John & St. Philip hosted the Choral Festival. The organising committee (Fiona, Emmy and Natasha) not only worked hard to get everything ready in time but also took the social side of organising this festival very serious.

Choirs from Anglican churches from The Hague, Haarlem, Utrecht, Antwerp, Rotterdam, Brussels, Luxembourgh, Dusseldorf and Swindon came together to sing music from composers like Richard Shephard (anthem: Out of the stillness), Sir S.H. Nicholson (magnificat and nunc dimittis), Martin Neary (preces and responses), Ralph Vaughan Williams (anthem: Lord, thou hast been our refuge) and Bob Chilcott (anthem: Irish blessing). Our conductor for the day was Nigel Groome, organist and director of music of Beckenham Parish Church. Our organist was Christina Edelen, organist and choirmaster of St. John & St. Philip, The Hague.

It was a super day with lots of hard work from both singers and organising committee, but most of all from all the people who helped making the lunch! We even had so much lunch left lunch became a perfect dinner at the end of the day.
